The Golden Rule of WordPress Updates

This blog like all of my websites is powered by WordPress. I’ve been using the WordPress platform for about 7 years now. I’ve never rushed out to install the latest updates, since I have found that as much as I love the platform, a WordPress update can be buggy at times.  Especially within the first few days of a new update release.

Case in point. The latest update, WordPress3.4 “Green” was released this week, and since I’m spending a lot of time in WordPress on another site I am working on I decided not to wait and upgrade to WordPress 3.4. Only I didn’t use the other site as my test bed. I used nwemediaMike instead.

After I updated the WordPress installation I found out that it broke the theme I was using. So I’m back to the Thrilling Theme. I like this theme and it is clean and intuitive.  So Thrilling Theme it is.

So what is the Golden Rule of WordPress Updates?

Wait for the stable version, usually 3-5 business days after the initial release.

    Hey Devin,

Your question isn’t off topic at all. I’m using Jetpack and one of the options is Extra Sidebar Widgets. My Twitter feed comes from there.

Hey I know this is off topic but I was wondering if you knew of any
widgets I could add to my blog that automatically tweet my newest twitter updates.
I’ve been looking for a plug-in like this for quite some time and was hoping maybe you would have some experience with something like this. Please let me know if you run into anything. I truly enjoy reading your blog and I look forward to your new updates.
