I discovered another Firefox plugin for SEO the other day and showed it to my co-worker. “You should write a blog post about all your plug-ins”  he suggested. So thanks to Alex DeBold of ChickAdvisor here are newmediaMike’s

5 essential Firefox plugins for SEO

The first plug in which is actually the one that prompted this post is called:

Google Global Firefox Extension

This plugin is very useful if you have international clients. If you search from Canada you generally get Canadian results. But what if you have to find out how your site is faring on Google in the US? With this plug in you can check the results on Google in the US, UK, Canada, Ireland and Australia. You can customize it for any Google search engine.  This extension be downloaded from the developer RedFly marketing.

SEOMoz Toolbar

SEOMoz is a great site with very useful SEO tools. I tried it out for a month and loved it, but couldn’t justify the expense ($79 a month) to my CFO (aka as Mrs. newmediaMike). However the toolbar is free and is loaded with tools and quicklinks back to SEOMoz. There are back link tests, Crawl Test, Keyword Difficulty, Term Extractor (my favourite), and more. They also give you a quick link to your SEOMoz account. There are also various rank bars including MozRank and Google PageRank. It also shows you the number of external links from domains. Clicking on this last item launches SEOMoz’s exclusive Linkscape link analysis tool. This is definitely a Pro tool and if you are a Pro or are serious about SEO this is one you should have installed.

SEOBook Toolbar

The SEOBook Toolbar is from Aaron Wall’s SEOBook. This toolbar comes packed with over a dozen SEO tools. You can never have enough PageRank bars, and this toolbar of course comes with one. From the toolbar you can see how many llinks you have from and instantly launch Yahoo linkdomain, Yahoo page links, DMOZ Directory and Yahoo directory.  If you have links on “Best of the web” you can instantly see how many links you have on that directory. Want to know at a glance how many visits your competition is getting? Compete results are also available.

Speaking of competition, this tool goes deeper with the Competition sub-menu. In addition to Compete, you can instantly launch Google’s Saerch based keyword tool, Google Trends and Lexa to name a few. This toolbar also comes with Rank Checker. Rank Checker is an awesome tool and is actually worth a separate post.  The SEOBook Toolbar also comes with SEO XRay, which is great for checking backlinks and showing you various elements on a page. You can also highlight keywords and compare up to 4 sites with the site compare tool

The SEOBook toolbar also has a field where you can enter a phrase you want to research and launch the SEO Book Keyword suggestion tool, Adwords traffic Estimator,  Adwords Keyword Tool, Google Trends, Insights, Google Suggest, Yahoo Results, Quintara, SEOBook Keyword Density tool, Keyword Cleaner, Keyword Typo Genarator and WordTracker. TheSEOBook Toolbar is by far the most valuable toolbar on my browser.

Quirk Search Status

This nifty little plugin highlights keywords, no follow links, measures keyword density (not sure why) can show you meta tags at a glance, shows you a sites robots.txt and sitemap.xml files. It also shows you all the pages Google and Yahoo have linked to the site. It will also pull up Whois and Archive.org information.

Alexa Toolbar Plug-in

Although I’m not a huge fan of Alexa I have clients who live and breathe by their Alexa rank, so I installed it to monitor their site. The Alexa Toolbar Plug in installs a new item on your main menu called “Related Links”. It’s interesting, not quite sure how the generate these links though. For example on Videozine.ca, some of the “Related Links” include Cinram (large manufacturer of DVD and CD for the film and music industry) and a coupon site! Like the Rank Checker tool I have a post I’m working on about Alexa so I’ll save the rest for that.

There you have  my 5 essential Firefox plugins for SEO. What plugins for Firefox do you use?

  • I used Quirk for awhile...found it pretty helpful. I actually just removed it (like 2 mins ago) but I'm sure I'll have it back on in a few days.

Have you seen SEOmoz's new link acquisition tool? I'm looking to get my hands on it asap to try it out. Shoot me an email if you've had any thoughts about it.

  • Thanks for sharing this listing of plugins. Most of these plugins are new to us, so these are worth checking and using.
