4 Tips for linking blogs to websites
One of the first forays into social media I recommend for my clients is to start a blog. I wrote a piece on business blogging over on videozine.ca on the topic of “What to do now you have a company blog” as the first blog piece.

Here are 4 Tips to help you link your blog to your website.
Use an offsite blog.
This is really helpful if you have several web properties you can link to. Linking from within your own domain provides only marginal value, in fact it’s pretty much the same as linking two pages together. Blogging from an offsite domain is regarded as another web site linking to yours. For example, my business site videozine connects to seoservicestoronto and they both connect here and I connect to them as well. I also have mikeallan.com which links to everything.
Only one link per page.
Have you ever seen posts where it seems every other keyword was a link to another site and they were all the same links? This is a mistake some web owners make. They go link crazy. Google gives value to one link to a particular page per post. If you have a post with three links to your web site, only the first will be counted. You can have one link to ten different pages on your web site so long as each page has only one link.
Make the link count.
When linking to your web site, make sure you use keywords associated with the web page you are linking to. If you do not use keywords the links value is significantly reduced.
Link often.
Every time you post it should link to one of the pages on your web site. But go easy. Oh sure you can have as many links to as many pages, as you want; the reality is that you don’t want it come off as spammy. There is a time and a place for links and then there is just spamming and keyword stuffing.
Follow those simple guidelines and the number of inbound links will improve significantly.
