The new Facebook

March 25th, 2009 Posted in Twitter, editorial, facebook, soapbox, social media

Unless you’ve been living under a rock or hanging out at MySpace you’d know the whole blogosphere and twitterverse is all in a tizzy about the “new” Facebook.  Deja vu all over again! Didn’t we go through this with the LAST upgrade/redesign?

I personally don’t like the new layout. It is like Twitter on steroids with all the bells and whistles, it’s got everything thrown in and it’s pretty fugly. It reminds me of those body builders who go over board with the steroids and they are well …. fugly. Is this Facebook’s revenge for being spurned by Twitter when Facebook tried to buy Twitter in an all stock deal? “Well if we can’t buy you we’ll just make  a better version of you”

The similarty to Twitter is quite uncanny really. Everytime I look at the interface I’m reminded of that old Labatt’s commercial with Thomas Cavanagh … “If I wanted water, I would have asked for water.” Except of course in this case, it’s “If I wanted Twitter, I would have asked for Twitter”.

So, basically – I don’t like the new Facebook.

i agree. the previous changes were to make it better, this, well, just sucks. I've seen it before too, lots of changes. nothing works. Pages aren't loading, servers are crashing, comments aren't showing up or showing up multiple times, acess to applications is denied 9 times out of 10 and the ads are extremely overboard. It's so annoying, and the exact reason why alot of us left 360.
