Key Element for SEO Success
The key element for SEO success is not just about figuring out how the search engines rank content. It’s about understanding how people use search engines. If you could master everything there was to know about how the search engines work you would still need to know how people use them.
Recently I was doing some keyword research for my day job as an SEO Consultant. I was researching keywords to drive traffic to a deep linked page that had to deal with furnace repair. I sat down and thought back to all the problems I’ve had over the years with all of the various furnace systems in houses where I’ve lived and then thought of how I would search for those terms.
I was amazed at how well that exercise worked. I came up with a basket of about 75 new phrases which have a total volume of a few hundred thousand annual searches. By thinking like a person instead of an algorithm I was able to successfully expand our keyword reach.
Understand how people use search engines and you will achieve success.
