Contextual Advertising gone awry

August 25th, 2008 Posted in advertising, in the trenches

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or follow me on Twitter. Thanks for visiting!

I remember the first time I encountered contextual advertising, I was a bit ticked off that I was being pitched based on what I was surfing. Over the years 99.999% of Googles contextual ads have become background white noise, I essentially ignore them.

But today I had to get a chuckle, I cleaned out my GMail spam box and this ad appeared above my now empty spam box.

Sometimes Google is too literal.  Spam Skillet Casseroles - well that’s ONE way to get rid of spam!
