Daily SEO Tip - What to do when your rank drops

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or follow me on Twitter. Thanks for visiting!

If your search engine results page, or SERP ranking fluctuate, or even if your site drops from the rankings all together, don’t panic. You need to understand these things happen, and they WILL happen to you.

It happens to everyone. When it happened to me a while back do you think I panicked?  You bet I did! (Read about my temporary loss of rank)

So now you know this may happen to you, the chances are you will likely still panic; but hopefully only briefly, and once you stop having a nervous breakdown, DON’T give in to the first instinct and tweak your Web pages!

Just step back and wait to see what happens. Post some Tweets, play Scrabble on Facebook. Do anything BUT change your pages. Come back in a few hours and continue to monitor your rankings. In all likelihood, your pages will reappear right back where they should be (or close to those rankings).

Fluctuations in rankings are normal.  Far too many people (including yours truly) PANIC in the short term, when they would be wiser to just take it easy and not start making changes so quickly.
