Daily SEO Tip - Join the Blogosphere

Blogging makes sense from a marketing perspective. You’ll be leveraging the shift from outbound to inbound marketing and interacting with your customers in new ways. A blog lets you meet your customers more directly than sending out brochures or an email campaign. It changes your website from a brochure that most people look at once to something that people interact with and come back to.

Blogging is a great way to reach your target audience with your thoughts, opinions, and offerings on relevant topics.

Making sure that your company has an extensive web presence outside of your own website is important. It increases the chances that your prospects will find your company when they are online since there are more web pages that contain information about your company. However, DO NOT host your blog on a popular free space like Blogger or WordPress. This does not portray a professional appearance. A self hosted blog, as a sub domain of your main domain would be better and give you a more professional apearance and you will be able to control your blog’s appearance.

Twitter being used to distribute Malware

Buried among all of the twits from the legions of people I follow was one that caught my eye. SexySEO posted a link to a story on ZDNet about a malicious virus (aka malware) being sent via Twitter.

The story caught my eye, because I’ve been back on Twitter quite a bit at home lately and today I had a major problem with my system. I was unable to open any files using Windows Explorer. One solution it was suggested was to run a check for malware. Which makes sense. However the story talks about a porn site which I have never visited.

In this case it’s a malicious Twitter profile twitter.com/[skip]/ with a name that is Portuguese for ‘pretty rabbit’ which has a photo advertising a video with girls posted.

This profile has obviously been created especially for infecting users, as there is no other data except the photo, which contains the link to the video.

If you click on the link, you get a window that shows the progress of an automatic download of a so-called new version of Adobe Flash which is supposedly required to watch the video. You end up with a file labeled Adobe Flash (it’s a fake) on your machine; a technique that is currently very popular.

In reality, this is a Trojan downloader that proceeds to download 10 banker Trojans onto the infected machine, all of which are disguised as MP3 files. We first detected the downloader proactively as Heur.Downloader and then added a signature to detect it also as Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Banload.sco. Only 1 person is following this profile currently:
