JPod is coming out on DVD

I read the Douglas Coupland Book JPod a few years ago. I remember at the time thinking it would make a great movie. Then I found out that CBC had optioned it as a TV series. I was skeptical at first. No offense to the fine folks at the CBC, but you don’t really have a stellar track record with dramatic series lately.

I tuned into the first episode of JPod and was pleasantly surprised at the acting and the whole production value of the show. Alan Thicke was great as Ethan’s background acting Dad Jim and Sherry Miller stole the show as his pot growing mom, Carol.

Tuning into JPod on a Friday night became something I looked forward to. When I missed a week because the Blond Child was in the hospital ( the appendicitis incident of Winter 2008,) I discovered I could find the episodes online in their entirety. Way to go CBC! You really had me convinced you got the show and new media.

Then you moved the show to a new time slot. Then it was preempted for a few weeks. Then you canceled it! The whole fandom of JPod was crushed. OK I’m exaggerating - there was one post and a few replies in the Facebook group I joined.

But good news has arrived. jPod: Season 1 is coming out on DVD! That’s right, straight from cancellation bin to DVD. The street date is September 9, and I can tell you first hand that the menu interface is awesome. After all, we are authoring the DVD series at creative Post, where I toil during the day.

The most curious thing about the release is that they are calling it “Season 1″. There was only one season, shouldn’t it have been “The Complete Series”? or is this a part of some “Family Guy” like campaign to bring the show back?

Stay tuned folks!

Daily SEO Tip - Increase business responses

You’ve selected your shiny new keyword phrases, made sure you have the right meta tags, double checked for keyword stuffing. Your site is now optimized. While you are increasing the visibility of your newly optimized content, why not look for other ways to increase response from your current traffic too?

One way to increase “business response” with your current traffic is to offer a special promotion. This could be a seasonal promotion, a special offer or a discount on a product featured prominently on your home page. Offer something that is popular at the right price, but don’t offer too many choices.

Increasing sales with your current traffic is just as nice as bringing in new traffic.  After all you have worked hard to get the traffic to your site, whether it’s new or repeat. When deciding what you will do, offer something priced for the spontaneous buyer.

Use keywords in the anchor text to drive the traffic to specific pages within your site where these offers will reside. Make sure you also have a response form or another call to action mechanism in place to catch those buyers.
