These are more than just rumors, I actually heard this on that bastion of news 680News (coincidentally owned by Rogers) just as I was driving past the Rogers store at the Rogers Center, you know where the Rogers Toronto Blue Jays play.
Apparently Rogers is announcing that they are bringing the iPhone to Canada. Now I know we’ve all heard this before, it was going to be last fall in time for Back to School, then Thanksgiving, then there was the Holt Renfrew debacle, then in time for a late Christmas gift …
BUT this time they are serious! It was announced on the news. If they announce it on the news it has to be true doesn’t it? I mean this is the same mainstream news station that led off the news one day with the announcement a listener had won a contest. So they have to be believable don’t they?
We’ve been down this garden path before, but until there is actually a phone in a Rogers Store I for one will not believe it. Also, IF it is true, it would have to mean Rogers gave in to Apple’s demands re the data plans. I hardly believe Rogers will give in on that cash cow.
I was at my local Rogers store this past weekend looking to upgrade my phone. I’ve had my eye on a Blackberry Pearl, but the best price they’d sell it to me for was $250 PLUS I had to sign up a third family member to our family plan AND I had to take a minimum $75.00 a month data plan. This data plan allows me 7 mb of transfer and the $7 a mb after that. With a lucrative cash cow like that I seriously have my doubts Rogers is going to give in to the unlimited data plans.
But then again I have been wrong before …
Except now.
“We’re thrilled to announce that we have a deal with Apple to bring the iPhone to Canada later this year,” said president Ted Rogers in a statement. “We can’t tell you any more about it right now, but stay tuned.”
Stumble it!
