Adobe Media Player

When I logged onto Twitter this morning there were several comments about the new Adobe Media Player (AMP). Due to my curious nature I had to know what all the fuss was about first hand so of course I immediately downloaded and installed the AMP.

It installed with no fuss and before I knew it I was on the home page. I take it that the black, charcoal and slate interface with light grey text with orange highlights is supposed to be cutting edge, and I suppose to some it is.

The shows that are highlighted are The Hills and CSI NY. Immediately I think, great more content I’m just going to get teased with that I can’t watch. But I decided to see if I was geofenced out of watching the content.

After watching a pre-roll ad I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to watch CSI NY. Kudos to Adobe for not geofencing Canadians out of the content!

I spent the next little while checking out the various genres and programs, just watching snippets of each. There is a wide variety of programming available (46 genres and multiple programs in each) and it all plays flawlessly through the player. I was also very pleased to find a couple of Canadian original web based programs featured dotboom and Galacticast. Congrats to Mr. Hogg and Rudy and Casey for being included in the AMP.

The way the content is packaged is slightly reminiscent of the old Real player content. But just slightly reminiscent as there is a lot more content and it all plays superbly through the player.

All in all, Adobe definitely has a winner on it’s hands and Microsoft’s WMP has a real competitor for content delivery.

What do you think?
