Someone is Trying to Trademark “SEO process”

I’m still studying SEO techniques. One way I am doing this is by reading all of the major SEO blogs. Today I came across this headline and it stopped me dead in my tracks.
It appears that Jason Gambert, an Arizona based Internet marketing Consultant managed to convince the United States Trade Mark Office (TMO) that SEO is a “process” involving manipulation of keywords, and not a “marketing service.” Jason has been trying to do this for about a year now and after a few attempts the TMO essentially bought into his convoluted argument that while “SEO” can’t be trademarked when it refers to a generic process of manipulated keywords, it can be a service mark for providing “marketing services…in the field of computers.”
